Aunt Glenna

Aunt Glenna - Christmas '10

Aunt Glenna found out a few months ago that her cancer had returned. It was already in her lungs and bones, so there really wasn't anything they could do for her. They could just get her a little more time with chemo and radiation. She quickly got worse over the last few months, and the family was called in to the hospital a couple of days ago. I went down to see her on Monday. It was so hearbreaking, especially to see Uncle Bernard, Beth and Gram. This morning, Mom called to tell me that she passed away early this morning. As I was growing up, I always admired Aunt Glenna and looked forward to seeing her. She was always so nice to me. When I was really young, we used to go to her house every Fourth of July to watch the fireworks and have a barbecue. Of course, I saw her at lots of other family things throughout the year, too. As an adult, I got to spend more time with her when I worked at the store with her and Beth. We got to chat a lot as we all worked on the books. Then I worked there again when Nathan was a baby until I went back to teaching. Nathan loved "Denna", which is what he called her when he was really little. I'm so glad I had those times with her. Good memories. Aunt Glenna was always a girly-girl and loved talking about fashion, hair, makeup, pocketbooks, manicures, etc. In fact, when I went to see her at the hospital the other day I noticed that her nails were done and she had a bracelet on. She was so close to her family, too. She was close with each of her children and grandchildren. She spent years doing a day care in her home so that she could take care of her oldest granddaughter when she was little. Her life pretty much revolved around her family. Gram lived with them for a while, too, until Aunt Glenna was too sick to take care of her. Aunt Glenna was only 58, which seems so young to me. It didn't always seem young, but it sure does now. I feel so bad for Gram, Uncle Bernard, Beth, Kallie and Alyssa because they were probably the closest to her. She will definitely be missed by everybody, but especially by them.

A new niece!

We have a new great niece, Paige Ryan Baker! She was born Thursday night. Dan and I went to see her yesterday. We both got to hold her, which was absolute HEAVEN. She is so sweet!

I'll be uploading pictures soon of Ashley's birthday and Paige. I've spent quite a bit of time this weekend working on my paper for school. I can't wait until I'm done. Then I can focus on other things and enjoy life more.

I brought Megan and her friend Emily to a musical last night at Poland High School. JJ had a big part in it, so we wanted to support him, plus I just love musicals. Anyway, it was great. Everybody did a great job. I'd actually never seen Guys and Dolls before.

Aunt Glenna is in the hospital right now. We found out a few months ago that her cancer was back. It's now hard for her to even breathe. We don't know how much time she has left. I feel so sad for her and her children and husband and mother! It's just so hearbreaking. She has always been my favorite aunt!
